Welcome to the Barton Town Band
Barton Town Band in concert with Internationally Renowned
Soloist Martin Winter in a Gala last night of the Prom's concert
featuring a 150 voice Choir.

It was a wonderful opportunity to round of what has been a very busy year with this special gala concet with
Martin Winter.  Martin was born in Barton so in some respects he wasreturning home. Martin is a Graduate
of the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he studied trumpet with Howard Snell and John
Dickinson. He has been a freelance trumpeter with most of the major British orchestras and was Associate
Principle Trumpet of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra for eight years from 1992. From the 2000/01 season,
he has been the Co-Principle Trumpet with the Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester, Norway

In addition to
professional work, he
has played principal
cornet with
outstanding brass
bands, notably the
Desford Colliery
Dowty Band, Britannia
Building Society Band,
Williams Fairey Band,
Yorkshire Building
Society Band and the
National Youth Brass
Band of Great Britain.
After leaving the
RNCM as a student,
he became a Junior
Fellow in teaching,
and tutored trumpet
and cornet for eight
years. During this
time he became a
recommended
teacher for both
Manchester and
Durham Universities.
He has also been
guest lecturer for
the Royal College of
Music in London,
the Royal Scottish
Academy of music
and Drama in
Glasgow and the
Grieg Academy in
Bergen.
